RV & Boat Insurance in North Carolina
Coverage should travel with the way you explore. We help compare protection for the vehicle or watercraft, liability exposures, equipment, and the details ordinary auto or homeowners policies may not fully address.
Protection built for recreation and travel
RV and boat policies can combine liability, physical-damage, medical-payment, equipment, and assistance coverages. The exact protection depends on the vehicle, watercraft, use, carrier, and issued policy.
Liability protection
Helps address covered bodily-injury or property-damage claims for which an insured is legally responsible.
Physical damage
May help repair or replace an RV, boat, motor, or trailer after a covered loss, subject to the policy.
Medical payments
May help with eligible medical or funeral expenses after a covered accident.
Equipment & belongings
Available coverage may apply to permanently attached equipment and selected property used with the RV or boat.
Towing & assistance
Optional protection may help with eligible towing, roadside, fuel delivery, or on-water assistance costs.
Vacation liability
Some RV policies offer protection for liability exposures while the RV is parked and used as a temporary residence.
Registration, use, and contracts shape the quote
A motorized RV, towable trailer, and recreational boat do not all follow the same insurance rules. We help organize the correct details before comparing options.
Continuous liability coverage is required
Vehicles with a valid North Carolina registration must maintain liability insurance from a company licensed to do business in the state.
Policies after July 1, 2025 use higher limits
For policies issued or renewed after July 1, 2025, minimum auto-liability limits are $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident, and $50,000 for property damage.
Physical damage, liability, and medical payments
The NC Department of Insurance explains that boatowners and yacht policies commonly include these core coverage categories, with options varying by policy.
Lenders and facilities may require more
A lender, marina, campground, or storage facility may impose insurance requirements beyond state law. Confirm the contract before binding coverage.

RV and boat insurance, made clearer
Does my auto policy automatically cover my RV?
A motorized RV usually needs coverage designed for that registered vehicle. A towable trailer may receive limited liability treatment from the towing vehicle in some circumstances, but physical damage and other protection commonly require separate coverage.
Does homeowners insurance cover my boat?
A homeowners policy may offer only limited coverage for certain small watercraft or property. A boatowners or yacht policy is designed to address broader physical-damage, liability, and marine exposures.
What is the difference between boat and yacht coverage?
The NC Department of Insurance notes that boatowners policies are typically used for smaller watercraft, often under 26 feet, while yacht policies are used for larger or more expensive vessels.
Is fishing equipment covered?
Coverage varies. Some policies require additional protection for fishing equipment, mobile phones, computers, and other personal effects used aboard the boat.
What happens while the RV or boat is stored?
Storage location, seasonal lay-up, protective measures, lender requirements, and physical-damage provisions all affect coverage. Do not cancel required vehicle liability coverage before resolving registration requirements.
Can I bundle RV or boat coverage?
Some carriers offer multi-policy discounts or coordinated limits. We can compare eligible options and explain the differences.
